Local Mom Daughter Duo to Host 2nd Annual Lupus Awareness Event at FDR State Park on Sunday, May 5, 2024

Cheryl Sanchez and her daughter Brittany, along with the support of TheNetWorks Organization, are hosting the 2nd annual Lupus Awareness Month Fundraising Event on Sunday, May 5 from 11-2pm in area 6 of FDR State Park.

This mom-daughter team from Yorktown have been personally impacted by lupus since Brittany’s diagnosis in 2020 – in the early days of the pandemic. Despite their combined experience in healthcare and science, the journey through diagnosis, treatment, and support has been challenging. While looking for resources in the local area, they were unable to find any and decided to start this new annual tradition of bringing awareness, support, and fundraising to Westchester County.

Lupus is a chronic disease that has no cure. It’s an autoimmune disease, which means that your immune system — that usually fights infections — attacks healthy tissue instead. Anyone can develop lupus, but it is most prevalent in women and people of color. Lupus commonly affects the skin, joints, and internal organs like kidneys and lungs, but it can cause inflammation and pain in any part of your body. Since it can affect patients in many different ways, it is usually hard to diagnose and hard to treat.

This event will feature vendors, resources, and activities as well as an optional self-directed walk for those who choose to participate. Proceeds support the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA).  Expected guests/speakers include County Legislator Colin Smith and Daks Armstrong.

TheNetWorks will also be hosting a Spring Networking Mixer + Fundraiser Event on Thursday, May 23rd at The Gramercy in Yorktown Heights.

Sponsors/partners/vendors include: The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA), TheNetWorks Organization (The Network for Success), All American Homecare, Nissan of Yorktown Heights, The Jefferson Valley Mall, the Northeast ADA Center, Enjoy Erica Art Studio, TMN Skincare & Wellness, One Hope Wine, New York Life, Tupperware, Vegan Life for the Soul, Mary Kay, Monat, Beautycounter, & more!
