Local Mom Daughter Duo to Host 3rd Annual Health & Wellness Fair in support of Lupus Awareness Month at FDR State Park on Sunday, May 18, 2025
Cheryl and Brittany Sanchez are hosting the 3rd annual Health & Wellness Fair + FUNdraising Event in support of Lupus Awareness Month on Sunday, May 18 from 11-2pm in area 6 of FDR State Park in Yorktown, NY. Organized by TheNetWorks, this event will feature vendors, resources, and activities and is intended to support individuals and their caregivers who are impacted by any chronic illness.
This mom-daughter team from Yorktown have been personally impacted by lupus since Brittany’s diagnosis in 2020 – in the early days of the pandemic. Despite their combined experience in healthcare and science, the journey through diagnosis, treatment, and support has been challenging. While looking for resources in the local area, they were unable to find any and decided to start this new annual tradition of bringing awareness, support, and fundraising to Westchester County.
In the years since this annual tradition began, May has been proclaimed "Lupus Awareness Month" in both the Town of Yorktown and Westchester County, and May 10 has been declared "World Lupus Day" by the Westchester County Board of Legislators. Cheryl and Brittany were also recognized by local State Senator Pete Harckham's office for their advocacy work.
Lupus is a chronic disease that has no cure. It’s an autoimmune disease, which means that your immune system — that usually fights infections — attacks healthy tissue instead. Anyone can develop lupus, but it is most prevalent in women and people of color. Lupus commonly affects the skin, joints, and internal organs like kidneys and lungs, but it can cause inflammation and pain in any part of your body. Since it can affect patients in many different ways, it is usually hard to diagnose and hard to treat.
Fundraising proceeds support the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA). Expected guests/speakers include County Executive Ken Jenkins, Chairman of the Board of Legislators Vedat Gashi, County Legislator Colin Smith, and Daks Armstrong.
Sponsors/partners/vendors include: TheNetWorks, Walgreens, Nissan of Yorktown Heights, Jefferson Valley Mall, Halston Media, The Gramercy, ProClinix, Office of the County Executive, Westchester County Board of Legislators, Westchester County Office for People with Disabilities, Lupus Research Alliance, Enjoy Erica Art Studio, All American Homecare Agency, Northeast ADA Center, TMN Skincare & Wellness, Monat, TP Professional Solutions, OccuHealth, One Hope Wine, New York Life, Tupperware, Mary Kay, Go No Sen Karate Yorktown, Dragonfly Arts, ACCES-VR, The Timeless Cookie Company, Paparazzi, Arbonne, Belgique Boutique, Grandma’s Love Best, Common Grounds Café & Roastery, Desire Foods, Kimberly Seger Charity Foundation, Bronxville Reiki, Westchester County Department of Senior Programs & Services, Creations by DBrackett, T-Mobile, & more!
